From what I’ve read, he does hold some progressive opinions, such as on immigration. He also holds some conservative opinions, like homosexuality being bad. I don’t think it’s fair to call him either. However, from what I’ve heard he is about as “progressive” as we could have hoped for from this process this time. I think hoping for anything good from something like Catholicism is foolish. The best you can normally hope for is that they just don’t get in the way.
If peace is reached and maintained. If Russia doesn’t get all of Ukraine, how long is it going to be until they invade again? No one is going to want to invest in building a mine with that hanging over it.
The problem is, the US isn’t actually divided by red/blue areas. It’s divided by urban and rural/suburban. Even red states, the cities are almost all blue. You can’t just break it up like that because they’d have revolutions in the south at least.
As I said, some is necessary. However, a lot is just to make it not viable to protect dirty energy. Nuclear fission is one of the safest sources of energy, including the disasters and clean energy. It’s incredibly safe, and has only gotten safer. The chance of a meltdown are damn near zero now, and even if one happens there’s little chance for significant issues.
Meanwhile coal is spewing out radioactive waste constantly and has very little restrictions.
It’s not expensive because they are actually particularly hard to make though. They’re expensive because we made them expensive. There’s so many requirements and restrictions on them that aren’t on other power sources. Some of that’s good, but a lot is designed by dirty energy to keep them in business. They drive up the cost of nuclear and then get to say they’re cheaper.
Sadly for you the statistic show increasing punishment does not actually work to prevent them from committing these crimes. It can work for some crimes, but not this kind, and also only up to a certain point.
Sadly this needs to be spelt out to you, but if we’re spending resources on something we should make an attempt to use it as efficiently as possible. We have studies that show the efficacy of different types and degrees of punishment, as well as rehabilitation methods. Rehabilitation can get some people (not all) to become contributing members of society, where they’ll actually be a benefit instead of a cost.
Their point was money is being spent. Is it not best spent on actually stopping this from happening?
We know that this isn’t actually about that and prison is not either. That’s not the point. The point is people are fighting for the wrong things if they actually want to help.
Only after they do it. It doesn’t prevent anything.
Hard disagree. Yes, when people are desperate they’re capable of horrible things, but most people won’t shoot a home intruder even if they went through the process of purchasing a gun for home defence and have someone break in. Everyone is capable of great evil, but they are not evil. Most people will choose to cooperate if they can.
Also, I’d say the most evil Nazis were religious. Their religion was Nazism though. They had a belief (that they were told was scientific, but wasn’t) that some people were better than others, and some groups actively needed to be removed to make the rest of us better in the future. It’s the same beliefs religions create, and it was also based in faith, just not of a god.
Just because they aren’t theist doesn’t mean they don’t have horrible backwards teachings. Most people are good without religion. Religion creates situations where otherwise good people do evil, because they’re told it is actually good.
I don’t think having another option bifurcates it, just like right now you can use Visa, Mastercard, or cash. If set up properly there will be systems to interchange between them. Having one likely won’t prevent you from using a certain store or anything else, unless they choose to not support something.
I love that the ~30 are hostages and the 2900 are “prisoners and detainees.” Lets be honest. They’re hostages too. Shouldn’t Israel be more willing to release their significantly larger number of hostages?
Just FYI, because your arguments are bullshit, Israel is also holding hostages. That’s not even mentioning Gaza is an open-air prison on its own. You’re acting like it’s only one side doing something, when the other side has a bodycount significantly higher, and has been attacking civilians and taking their houses for decades.
They are not opinions. They are facts. Whether they lead to something, who knows. The fact they’re real is not in question by anyone reasonable. Whether you like it is an opinion.
Russia is in a really bad situation. Then retaking Kursk doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t change that the Ruble is in a pretty serious downward trend, although this is being temporarily protected against by the government but it’ll hit harder when they can’t anymore. Their payments to soldiers families are being held back as much as possible, which is a major factor for keeping people complacent and also boosting their economy. They’ve lost more soldiers than the UK did in WWII. Also, they’re losing ground near Pokrovsk, which is actually strategically important. Kursk was not, except to hurt Russia’s ego because they lie about everything, but can’t really lie about that. It doesn’t cut off any supply routes (for either side) and the one thing it did have is an oil distribution pipeline, which probably doesn’t function now and you don’t need people there to damage that.
There’s plenty of reasons it would happen soon. I listed them above.
I’m not giving you, or anyone else, information linking to my person, so no I wouldn’t pay. I wouldn’t make a bet.
Why do you think that? You haven’t given a reason.
You asking to make a bet is just a stupid way to act like you’re the one with power. We both know this is an internet forum where we’re never going to pay the other no matter who wins. Stop behaving like a child. I know how this works.
I case you forgot by the time you read this, there’s a question at the top of this comment.
Man, you really don’t like justifying your beliefs. You’re always in the offense so you don’t have to answer anything about why you supposedly believe what you’re saying. You just pivot to some other shit. I can answer all your questions because my beliefs aren’t just based on faith like yours seem to be.
Why are they retreating? It’s because it was untenable to hold their current positions without large losses, and they’d gain nothing for it. Why wouldn’t they retreat. Do I think that was the plan all along? Not really. It has worked to draw forces from the east and allowed Ukraine to push there, to great effect though.
It’s not 4D chess. It’s just a sound strategy to retreat while you can without taking heavy losses and use that time to inflict heavy losses on your enemy. Russia isn’t doing as well in this regard. They’re taking dirt without strategic wins. They lose tons of men and assets taking what amounts to nothing. Holding ground does not create a strategic victory unless it creates an opportunity. Most of what Russia takes doesn’t. Dirt doesn’t do anything for you.
If you’d like to prove you actually have a brain, go to the above comments and answer the questions. Otherwise, you appear to be no better than a bot that can’t think for themselves.
I don’t exactly either. You ignored half my comment. Do you believe it when Russia says similar things? If so, why? Ukraine has an image they need to sell, but it’s even more important for Russia, so don’t believe them either.
How can you create an account with that name and also say you must comply with any authority even when they’re infringing on your rights? There’s no legal requirement to identify themselves (and even then, only to police, not to security) unless they’re suspected of commiting a crime. Being trespassed is not a crime. Trespassing is. They were told they had to leave, and on attempting to leave they were prevented from doing so, so they had not committed a crime and were being prevented from complying with the trespass order.
