I just fire back with “nobody wants to pay us anymore” now.

One way or another you need grid-scale turbines to maintain grid frequency. Solar power can’t set frequency and wind power is too variable, so power grids use some sort of turbine to do it.
Nuclear reactors are also necessary to generate things like medical isotopes and tritium for industrial processes, and fusion research. Someone, somewhere on Earth needs to keep their fission reactors going.
But share prices were already going down?
You people are going this far just to rationalize the burning of cars. The toll this will have on support for the cause will dwarf the temporary damage to Musk’s assets. This is just blatantly stupid accelerationism.
Go join an actual cause and be part of something. Stop lashing out like a baby.
Remember, there was the bread price fixing in Canada too, yeah, feels like such a long time ago
It’s funny that we talk about this like it’s past tense but bread is still $6 a loaf
See you keep saying “defending a Nazi”. I keep saying “you’re torching the personal property of people who are not Elon Musk and who likely innocently bought the vehicle”. If you’re just going to talk right past me and start talking about Musk when I’m talking about individual workers, I don’t see how this is a real conversation at all.
But just to be clear: torching Teslas that Musk already got paid for does not hurt him.
No. I invoked it to highlight the absurdity of this line of thinking: that it is somehow acceptable to damage the property of a worker who may be completely innocent.
I will be reporting anyone I catch destroying otherwise innocent people’s property to the authorities. I will not be associated with you fucking animals.
Only if I buy a Tesla.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Yes, you are the villain here.
You could petition for adoption of an EV plug that isn’t Tesla’s. You could ask to have the Tesla supercharger network be declared anti-competitive and force Musk to divest. Bonus points if you can convince people it should be a public good.
Lots of moves could be made. Instead you advocate for bashing the fash by… Burning cars owned by workers? And somehow you fail to see how this is not just morally and logically wrong, it also harms the view of leftists in the eyes of the public?
Are you a real person or do you glow?
Yeah conservatives were totally the largest market for EVs before Musk took the mask off, right? You people truly have not spent even a microsecond thinking this through.
I hadn’t even considered that this is causing the used market to drop out. We could be urging people who otherwise couldn’t or wouldn’t to adopt EVs. Could turn the negative into a positive.
Nope the “activists” say, burn em all.
I don’t own one, but when I was considering which EV to buy they were on the list. I could have easily been just another Tesla owner, now getting their car burnt to a crisp or getting spray painted with Nazi symbols.
I am a unpaid union executive. I volunteer my time to groups like a Right-to-Repair advocacy organization. If the shitheads burning cars could get this motivated about these or other issues, we’d be knocking problems over like dominoes. Instead “activism” for a lot of people now means complaining on the internet and destroying the property of workers.
Frankly people need to take that type of activism and fuck right off with it. Do some real work or go home and let the adults figure it out.
Read this thread man. People have become fucking deranged, cheering on destroying the property of people who likely had no reason to believe they’d be making car payments to a Nazi.
Frankly if you’re not out canvassing for politicians you support or helping organize a union or something but you can find the time to cheer on the destruction of what is likely a worker’s property, you need to get a grip.
who the fuck was giving out free hormones
I didn’t say they were giving out free hormones. I said they were giving them out much more freely than they should have. Gender dysphoria is real but in a significant number of cases it has been identified as a symptom of other problems rather than the actual source, and it often resolves after resolving the underlying issues. Multiple countries have acknowledged this after extensive review and modified how they deliver care to be much more reserved about who is given puberty blockers and hormones.
Also studies show puberty blockers are not nearly as safe for long-term use as we were lead to believe, and indeed the ones on the market were never approved to be used that way. It was an off-label use and that is kind of absurd for an official treatment model.
people with genetic conditions take hormones because thier bodies cant produce any
I didn’t say there are no other reasons people take hormones. Gender dysphoria is itself a valid reason, when actually properly observed by medical professionals who are not zealots.
the mask issue wasnt evena big deal
For you. For others it was viewed as a government attempting to dehumanize them and strip them of their freedom. While I think they were being a bit dramatic, the fact is that the way to deal with this was not to mock them. You build a connection, establish trust, and show them why we need to work together.
When the evidence became clear that droplet theory was actually based on nothing at all (seriously it was a misunderstanding) and that cloth masks (not fitted N95s, cloth masks) actually cannot block COVID particles, there was no longer any reason to force people to wear them. Did liberals react to this with reason? Nope, it became an overly dramatic tribal issue the same way it was with the conservative folks.
you are arguing in bad faith
lol
Getting Canada to surrender sovereignty is the bit. Crashing the economy is a happy coincidence for him. The true goal is profiting from the chaos in between it all.
You Americans being so dismissive of other people is exactly how this happened in the first place.
Remember when people were calling out how gender affirming care policies had gone too far and those people were written off as bigots? Then it turned out that a bunch of ideologues had hijacked the processes in several countries and were issuing puberty blockers and hormones with barely any consultation, then suppressed evidence that unchecked use of puberty blockers and hormones was actively harming people?
Remember when it turned out that droplet theory was bullshit and cloth masks don’t actually block COVID but we kept trucking along like they did?
Remember when Democrats told people facing hard times that the economy was doing great, even as the number of homeless was shooting up and inflation was going wild?
These and others are the kinds of lies that make people lose trust in authorities. Doubling down on them only made it worse. And before someone chimes in with a list of Republican / right-wing versions of this: yes I know they do the same thing, but telling people that as if that makes what “your side” did any better is stupid. The idea is to tell them about the lies on both sides so that they realize you’re not just another tribal moron. Tell the truth, gain some trust, and maybe you’ll see you share more in common than you’ve been lead to believe.
I know a neoliberal small business owner who was complaining that his minimum wage workers aren’t as invested as he is… I told him that was obvious: they don’t benefit from the work they do, they don’t own any of the business, and there is always more minimum wage work out there. By his own ideology, why should they care about something that gets them nothing but the bare minimum and has no intrinsic value?
