That’s what I’ve done for now, but I’d prefer avoiding the days of emule downloads where you needed 2 days to get an illegal copy of a 30 MB mzsic album😅

Well I’ve contacted GOG’s support and we’ll see what they say. If it’s still like this in a week or two, I’ll just never order games again on GOG despite wanting to support them and really own my games.

Around 0.5 MB/s through heroic and 250 kb/s thrrough Firefox from the GOG website.
But my connection is way faster with everything else…

Well downloading on my desktop PC gives me the same slow speeds so it doesn’t help.
Especially because weirdly, turning off the computer meant starting at 0% again.

Well I have only rebooted the Deck, but it also happens on my Linux pc’s.
And downloading Playstation games, Steam games, watching Peertube, watching Nba league pass, watching youtube or listening to music on Tidal works fine.
Directly from GOG or through Heroic, I got these really slow download speeds, so it’s an isolated case.
Edit: after a network test, here’s what I’m getting

To be honest, while he would be annoying if I watched 10 of his videos in a row, I don’t understand why hés so hated on Lemmy.

I’m not an advanced user, bit the fact that retrodeck was a Flatpak I could easily install on my Steam Deck without installing Deckyloader was a big plus.

You saved me by talking about the drive not auto mounting after updates.
It turns out my problem this time was different than the last time as it was just the disk not auto mounting.
In the end, restarting my Steam Deck was enough. What an easy to solve and stupid problem!

Yeah you’re right about it being portable first.
I sold our Switch to justify getting it on top of my Playstation and my PC’s, so I’m not really using it thé right way as it spends a good amount of time hooked to a big screen.
Yeah let’s hope the Steam Machine is gonna bring more stability when it comes to external hard drives.

I know and that’s what’s frustrating.
I’d just want to be able to redirect the Deck towards it or copy it on another hard drive to see if the problem is hardware related.

Well I wrote the message in anger after discovering that my games had disappeared again, so I haven’t spent much time investigating😅
Last time, in « storage » in Steam OS the hard drive would still appear, the space occupied by the games would still appear, but the games were nowhere to be found.
In desktop mode, I’d easily find them, but there was no way to show Steam OS the path to these games again.
I’ve tried many workarounds found on the web, but none worked.
I ended up reinstalling my whole library. But now it’s the same thing with Retrodeck on top (although retrodeck might be easier to just move as you can change the path to games)

Yeah but it’s a problem for a guy looking for perfection like me😅

It’s a shame that the c/steamdeck part can’t be renamed, but it’s also normal to encounter limitations from time to time…
Maybe it’s it’s the first community in need of such a change and it’ll be implemented at one point…

Mass Effect 2 for the second time years after playing it on Playstation 3

Family sharing is a great idea, but for now it only works with one of the two games I bought for my kids.
Street Fighter V and Sonic All Star Racing work flawlessly on my profile, but Sonic doesn’t work on my kid’s profiles, which is weird as it’s supposed to support family sharing.

Well for now all the kids games were bought on Steam so it’s easy to just use the Steam family.
I guess I’ll stick to Steam games for them and try to get verified ones so that there is almost nothing to set up.
On GOG I only have adult games or old kid games that my kids would probably find too old because it ain’t Fortnite anyway, but I wish it was easy to share things in a family through GOG.
And I know the games are DRM free so I can just copy them, but I wouldn’t want to have multiple installs on my Deck which already doesn’t have enough storage…

I don’t agree as that’s why you can switch profiles.
Also the Deck is cheap, but what’s the point of having 3 devices when only one person is really using it and the kids would just it once in a while.
We have one kitchen so we can have one Deck😅

Someone call the police as 140$ for such a great device is a steal.
I paid 300$ for mine and I’m almost not using my Playstation 5 anymore, except for really demaning games and Sim Racing.
It also allowed me to sell my Switch and its games for 239$, so you could say I paid 61$ for my LCD Deck with 256gb😅

XCOM 2 is a great game to play on the Deck. The touchpad are perfect for such games and I eouldn’t picture myself playing it with a mouse/keyboard or Playstation 5 controller.
Yeah but I don’t need so much speed as long as it’s faster than the 0.5 MB/s I’m getting for now.
It works for everything I do and is cheap and reliable.
