Scholarly consensus that some president is fascist?
Fascism is a precise term for a specific political movement. not some “I don’t like this” adjective
Steward of heritage, keeper of soil. A proud Person of Land, devoted to the legacy of ownership, tradition, and the enduring bond between people and the earth beneath their feet.

I think it is rather controversial to use it in this way
I don’t even understand what fascism means in each case on lemmy and whether it is a fixed term or some adaptive catch it all
Rowling is some white trash but it seems everything is fascist nowadays this word lost its meaning altogether
fascist fascist nazi… doesn’t bring anything to mind anymore. Could be a brand of orange juice at this point or some children snacks
Looks like it was already a problem in 1944 as Orwell writes:
It will be seen that, as used, the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee, the 1941 Committee, Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley’s broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else.
Honestly it is unfortunate that most internet commenters are nearly illiterate and aren’t able to come up with more precise adjectives
Socialists must be very happy
Steam deck showcases perfectly how all usual consumer electronics are not made for you but for company to make bucks by delivering the bare minimum feature set for highest price.
I don’t think I can name any other device, appliance, car or anything that actually is made purely to deliver the most to the user. It’s a single anomaly and I don’t think this will last long or at all, let alone is some trend that will continue.
From all my purchases over the years it was a single device that not only matched expectations but exceeded them x 2 or more. I bought iPad Pro m4 oled around that time too and ipad in comparison is just a little bit more than what it is supposed to be, severely limited, for a hefty sum even though they say apple is a king of hardware.
Apple is not a king of hardware but a master of making money. Valve makes things that are actually awesome (but probably not profitable)
It’s probably temporary and brief moment but I am sure going to make the most out of it before it falls under the waves of enshittification again.
To be honest I don’t know how all these big companies still make money and are popular with how rudimentary, limited and OK their products are. I am like “what kind of fucking loser is slurping up all their stuff” oh… it’s me
Steam deck is great. It seemingly connects the arcane nerdy and streamlined casual. Whatever is your jam and mood in the moment there is always plethora of things you can play. Almost infinite possibilities. Modded. Portable.
It’s one of the only purchases that I never really regretted. Somehow it has the wow factor each day as when it was new.
I tried to see if I like kenshi game. I don’t but it is crazy that it is comfortable on deck and rimworld, dwarf fortress and sims too. I could use a MacBook Pro smh smh ultra hyper but it is clunky and annoying cold slab of business efficiency.
Any day now and I may actually attempt to run x4 with Star Wars mod though I think that may be actually a single exception but I swear I am going to do this crazy thing. Anything to play next to your loved ones in the living room or elsewhere
That’s why it is so frustrating, the OS sucks for many things and is very limiting but admittedly what it can do it does solid. Gaming isn’t one of these things
iPads have ridiculously powerful cpus and gpus
If an iPad ran steamos and supported steam controller in some kind of wacky timeline it would clean up all the competition. This thing is like 400g for 13 inch oled m4 beast battery all day. The numbers squeezed into this thin sleek and light thing are pure insanity
There’s another product that probably was this and ended up… somewhat badly. Valve index
It wasn’t bad in itself but the whole vr thing kinda missed the chance for whatever reason and now Zuckerberg took over it mercilessly. Maybe it was naive to think it will ever take hold outside of simming
Still the beginnings were real fun and that valve demo was so real I had panic attack from past me agoraphobia while in tutorial
I just sold my 4090 after playing some latest hit AAA games I didn’t like at all and I play only indies on deck, it’s the best gaming device ever
Also it seems the only games I liked from hundreds of aaa graphics eye candies from recent years are rdr2 and cyberpunk and bg3. I unironically think there are fewer great big aaa games nowadays cmv and I am not planning another xx90 card any time soon
‘Free’ always tastes better. It’s my favourite word. Free. It’s free. For free. 0 dollars. Gratis. Free of cost. On the house. Never had buyers remorse from acquiring something for free
My second favourite is ‘Cheap’
That’s not true and even a glance at first encyclopaedia you can get your hands on can disprove this. This is a very broad characteristic of many ideologies such as Bolshevism
