Except he does care about his reputation. It is all he cares about. He is just wrong about what helps it.

He will go down as the dumbest and weakest President ever. He cares. But without a ghost of Presidents past intervention, he will not believe it. He feels tough right now and, I believe, honestly thinks he is right on tariffs. He is wrong and history will record it so, but he really believes it.

China is more stable and reasonable. Normally, the problem with China is that they are authoritarian despots. In the current situation, the US is matching them on the authoritarian despot front. So, China wins by being more stable and reasonable.

Moving away from doing business with China is a problem that has to be solved in the next ten year. Moving away from the US needs to happen now.

I own a computer store. There is a guy outside that shines shoes. I pay him about $30 a year to shine my shoes. Business has been pretty good and I like nice shoes. He never buys a computer from me (says he cannot afford it).

Clearly he is taking advantage of me because we have a huge trade imbalance. Nasty, nasty guy. I am hitting him with tariffs soon.

In Canada, a somewhat Trump inspired populist right leaning party had 100% of winning the next election.prediction markets had it at 93%.

since the beginning of Trumps tarring stacks, the center left party had surged in popularity to a degree not even thought possible. If the election was today, they would win.

Trump is giving people somebody to rally against. And the “us” vs “them” is the the world vs the US.

Every country should refuse to send eggs to the US.

The only way I would consider it would be if there was a US wide broadcast where the world leader that gives them some has a low-level staffer ask JD Vance if he is going to “say thank you even once”. Trump needs to then tell JD that he has to say thank you because “we don’t have the cards. With them, we start to have cards”.

If they won’t say that on television, put export tariffs on eggs to the US at 500%.

It has to be 500% because 3 times the current price of eggs in Canada is about what they are selling for in the US already.

And a lot of other places

The same forces that created Trump are at work in Canada. And they are supported by US organizations. Have you noticed that suddenly even second tier US politicians have opinions about Trudeau, Carney, and Pollievre? It is the same as Musk in Germany. We are under attack.
