Yeah right now Lemmy is a niche appeal social media site with a minor technical barrier to entry, so it’s basically the ideal environment for toxic users to spawn. World is getting better as more regular-human users are driven off reddit, and there’s obviously blahaj and similar instances, but yeah it’s pretty rough here. Lots of “Anyone who’d choose the bear over me is just an idiot, I’d never completely miss the point like a bear would” types.
Oh for fucks sake.
I’ll be a little surprised if he addresses it more than a passing comment - the US conservative population doesn’t actually give a shit about canada (unless they’re told to be mad about it for some specific scapegoaty reason, but they’ll just forget. Like they’ve all forgotten about the lumber issues, or eggs, or how ‘canada is killing the US garment industry’ that one was cute…). At this point he’s got enough other things to distract them with, so why waste his very limited attention span on something he’s declared a solved issue?
Yo we don’t care when americans shoot american children, why should we care if someone else wants to get in on it? No way to prevent this. ('sides, with a name like Omar Mohammad Rabea the kid had to have been brown)
Did we? I guess I’m glad to hear that since it’s better than the “absolutely nothing” I was expecting…
I really haven’t seen anything claiming we did more than that, or claiming we had an impact at all. Honestly, I’ve barely seen more than this one article on the topic that even mentions the US’s (craven lack of) involvement in this. Does anyone in the current admin even care enough to misrepresent our involvement? Is that as depressing a question as it sounds?
I hadn’t even heard about this quake. I think our attention may just be taken up with a few issues here, and I’m really glad the international community can take up the slack while we get our shit sorted out…
Chomp
Even the MAGA crowd are aware of this, they just think it’s a good thing. The only thing americans can all agree on is that we have some serious housecleaning to do.
Generally, this absurd kind of bullshit goes nowhere and is just to distract from the truly heinous shit they’re doing in the background.
… but this one is probably just market manipulation. Crypto market goes up, trumpcoin goes up? Something like that.
“Again.”
I think if you check carefully, you’ll discover they were promoted to “honorary americans” for the duration of their glorious accomplishments, thus preserving our unimpeachable record for “being the best at war stuff”.
Well if you’re dead set on nitpicking the historical accuracy, I suppose we can be persuaded to concede that the Soviets helped, too. But only a little bit! And they nicked most of the good bits off us!
Better for knowing you’re alright, really.
… You doing okay?
Bad…?
But… they’re attacking said world-collapsable superpower precisely by flying drones at boats. But US geopolitical ties to the House of Saud really are too complex to summarize in a lemmy comment!
So that said, a summary in a lemmy comment: The regional power of the US is very much tied to the stability of Saudi power in the region, which is itself tied to approx. three thousand years of political infighting, outfighting and just general fighting. Its complicated, but our bases alone in the region are dependent on keeping the Saudis in power, and are a huge US consideration.
Idk what realizable power the houtis have, I haven’t actually been arguing for them being in what you may call a “good position” since the start of this. All I think is that grabbing the attention of an unstable lunatic is probably a bad idea when he’s the head of an operation that can casually warcrime hundreds of your people when not even really trying. Focusing that attention on yourself when you’re the aggressors is… only going to end badly, and I wish they acted like they knew that.
There’s been more than enough death already without pouring fuel onto the funeral pyres, and as much as I’d like to stop the killing on the “killing” side, that’s proving really hard.
Trusting a wikipedia link to make your point for you doesn’t work any better on lemmy than it did on reddit. In case anyone is curious, a couple excerpts from wikipedia
They aren’t equivalent-but-gender-flipped terms anymore, because “misandry” has been hijacked by the incels as a dogwhistle and convenient catchall term to dismiss concerns exactly like what’s in this thread. While I don’t think HexesofVexes intended this, they’re conflating the two terms to be equivalent in meaning which, when taken in context, just simply isn’t true.
