  • I’m referring to the US, not Isreal. AFAIK the US only hit nuclear facilities, and anyone who would have died there was thus working in a nuclear facility.

Though Iran has been bombing Isreal residential areas for a long time - not directly, but they have been funding all the groups who have been sending bombs, morters, and everything else. Iran just deserves a share of the blame for Gaza genocide as if they were not enabling the attacks, Isreal would not be as interested in such attacks. (how much is not knowable, but there is a share for sure)

  • China is making moves on Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, and the Philippians. They are building up their military. Nobody knows what will happen in the future, but there is a reasonably possibility of war in the region which the EU will get involved in. The cold war wasn’t all unreasonable fear even if some was.

You don’t need to phone home. A radio is something you can hide in a chip, using the board itself as an antenna. Then the chip listens for the signal which can be broadcast many ways (the local embassy, satellite, or spys) Isreal already proved that you can attack pagers in ways like this (their radios were hidden in a battery, but the point remains). The engineering is tricky, but well within something China can do.

  • As an American I don’t approve of empires: I don’t want Denmark or France to have colonies in the Americas. That doesn’t mean I want Greenland for the US though, let them be a free country of their own (or they could join Canada).

I’m consistent here: I do not approve of having Hawaii as a US state/territory. The other worldwide territories we have: have tiny populations (Guam at 168k) and military bases are an unfortunate necessity. However if anything has or grows to a significant population (with Guam already borderline) they should be left free. Puerto Rico is at least in the Americas: they can go free if they want, or join as a state - they should not be a territory.

  • The problem with the Gripen is it is a 4th generation fighter. Nice, but it lacks the stealth of the F35 which means you either lose pilots a lot or you keep them well away from the fights. They are still useful in their role, but you want a better plane for a lot of roles that it cannot do. And of course 6th generation fighters are already on the drawing board.
