Probably in the middle. Closer to 50 or 60, but you’re not wrong in saying I exaggerated. Fifty does feel like a hundred though. Sitting on the curb in handcuffs when you didn’t break any laws. That’s California cops for you though.

I’m a citizen and I’ve been detained like 100 times and I have a clean record. Detaining people over bs isn’t new. It’s nice that people seem to care at the moment but I bet they don’t care enough to fix it, because most people underneath it all are authoritarian. They’re happy as long as they’re in power and the govt is detaining the “right” people.
It would be cool if it was an option everywhere. I’ve cycle commuted. Hell I commuted on a skateboard for two years. But it is not an option where I live now. We can’t let mandates get ahead of real world options. Let’s make it an option everywhere. The next Dem president will champion this, right?
Right?
Edit just realized this was posted to the europe community. I’ve lived there a couple of years. You’re light years ahead of anywhere else in the world on this stuff. Good job! But don’t forget the rest of the world needs at minimum a few decades of massive infrastructure investment to come anywhere near what you already have. If we punish people for not riding bikes where riding a bike is impossible, we only lose support.
I mean it’s in the context. They’re shutting down rare mineral resources but given a few years other countries can replace those supplies. If China wants to cripple certain abilities, they probably want to act before we have found workarounds for their actions. Also, as crazy as Trump has seemed so far, the US is nowhere near uninfluential. Yet. He gained influence during his last term. I wouldn’t write him off as completely insane just yet.
This makes me think they’re going to move on Taiwan sooner rather than later.
I read that, and there was a link for more information on how it is applied but it just sends you each country’s main tax organization website where there is no obvious information on VAT. I’m left with questions, like is VAT applied to all transactions, or only to imports from other nations?
Can someone explain the VAT tax? We don’t have VAT here, I’ve heard of it but never had it explained but I’ve Heard it makes American vehicles more expensive in places like Germany.
Edit to say thank you for the responses, very helpful
Not at all defending Israel s actions, but it’s really easy to radicalize a group when all of the nations that surround you want to wipe your nation off the map. It really isn’t a surprise how many people are okay with the genocide in that context. The whole situation is a shit show.
It was written by the French in the first place unless I misunderstood the history.
Ah yes. Nothing says man for the people like an international bank leader.
Democracy is dying all over the world.
Edit: To the downvoters, do you think it is not? All of the democracy watchdogs say that it is. I’m in the US and it certainly is dying here.
From the article:
“Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber and on dairy products,” Trump said in an Oval Office address Friday, citing Canada’s roughly 250% tariff on US dairy exports to the country. Trump said America would match those tariffs dollar-for-dollar.
Considering he won an undisputed election and at least a quarter of his base are gun nuts, plus police love to use excessive force & violence, that scenario would probably play out poorly for pretty much everyone. I would say try to show conservatives how terrible he really is, but that’s not going to happen in Lemmy. I’m not even conservative, I’m anti-authoritarian centrist but even I find this place extremely hostile to conversation with anyone who doesn’t embrace the group-think.
No but I’ve been detained for no reason way too many times. Honestly this was half the reason I made the comment I did. Every time you’re pulled over for a traffic stop you’re detained. The writers need to make it clear that what is going on goes way beyond a basic detainment.
