If they’re not willing to kiss Trump’s ass and give America the preferential treatment that he’s trying to extort from the country, there’s going to be more than just a one-off passing comment about it. Probably a woe-is-me “Canada is taking advantage of us” campaign, I reckon.
Of course, most Americans don’t realize it’s an intensely offensive thing. That’s a major part of the problem.

The tariffs would make it cost 145% more, so you raise the prices by 40% to get a nice increase to your profit margins using “increased manufacturing costs” as the justification. Consumers pay the price because all the other options are either still made in China or doing the exact same thing and increasing their profits just like you are.

America is going downhill fast, and the current administration is highly imperial, expansionist, and corrupt. The “51st state” shit isn’t a joke. The government here said “if” they were to take Canada, it would be by economic force instead of military force, and then proceeded to leverage tariffs to create economic pressure on the rest of the continent. They undermine and belittle the Canadian government at almost every opportunity while riling up the conservatives down here by claiming yall are taking advantage of us and being welfare queens who are completely reliant on our handouts and protection. It’s an obvious attempt to tire people out and destroy national sympathy for you guys.

His one-sided deal and shitshow of meeting was meant to anger Zelenskyy so they could create some pretense for siding against Ukraine. Since that failed, he’s just going to pivot to this as justification for joining the war on Daddy Vladdy’s side.
Their approach leaves me with conflicting feelings.
On one hand, I dislike how the Steam Deck is among the weaker offerings for performance. On the other hand, I appreciate that it’s not a commodified device like phones, which keep increasing in price with only miniscule incremental improvements year over year.
It wouldn’t be as conflicting if they had better competitors following the yearly-improvement business model, as that would give more of a choice for those who prefer buying a new device each year. But, at least right now, the competing devices are pretty shit. None of them have dual track pads and 4 back buttons in addition to the standard inputs, and they’re all running Windows 11 with a bloatware bandage to cover up the fact that the OS is far from controller-friendly.
The people with disabilities will have to. I’m sure Putin has no qualms with taking the rest of them in to use as cannon fodder in exchange for a fraction of what they used to get from welfare.
Between EmuDeck and RetroDECK and having used both, I 100% prefer RetroDECK these days. It’s a single Flatpak install, it Just Works™ out of the box, and it doesn’t clutter my system with random crap sprawled everywhere. I also appreciate that it has a Steam Input template providing a way to do basically everything emulator-related that I could’ve ever wanted.
