You clearly didn’t read the article 🙄
While it is true that Brazilians with Portuguese ancestry get some preferential treatment for immigration, it is far from what you describe. And I highly doubt those are people that crossed the border covertly, as the government wouldn’t know were they live then. It is far more likely that these are people that came legally to Portugal, have an official address and for some reason lost their visa status but were tolerated to stay. But it might indeed be retired post-brexit British people or some digital nomads.
Stupid populism by the out-going center-right government. Most of those are probably well integrated Brazilians working in the tourism sector, and thus this will cause major staffing issues in the upcoming summer season.
While this advise is generally ok, thinking about it as an English speaking immigrant you should probably consider what languages the locals speak. For example, while it is nice to be able to speak English with more or less anyone in the Netherlands, it also means that your ability to speak English fluently is in very low demand. While in some other country being able to speak English might be more apprechated in an new employee.
Well, if you would actually focus on building planes that are safe to fly, maybe regulators in the EU would have a harder time objecting to your flying death-traps 🤦
Well… you can do it as an older person as well, but you can’t stay in official youth hostels and the private hostels that will allow you to stay have in recent years turned into some fancy “glampacking” party locations that are both relatively expensive and most older person will not like it at all.
The laid back slightly grubby hostel of my youth that made interrailing affordable and where it really didn’t matter what age you were seems to have become a very rare thing.
This should honestly extend to network attached devices in general. Way too many depend on some cloud service and are utterly useless without it.
For anyone expecting an article behind the link, don’t bother clicking 🤦♂️
The “no-alternative” BS is really tiresome. Of course there are alternatives and plenty of them 🤦♂️
It isn’t an election year though, so if you hit the people that are the campaign funders for the current politicians in power they might call in a favour with them and thus this can have a direct effect now and not only sometimes in a future election.
I think Taler would be a good supplement to the digital Euro, not a competition. It would be fairly simple to integrate an Taler exchange with a digital Euro API and use Taler as a digital cash alternative that works nicely for micropayments online.
There is an EU funded pilot project with a German and Hungarian bank, and at least the German bank plans to offer an public exchange for Euros very soon. Sadly they recently annonced that it will be only open to German business customers, but they plan to expand the offer to their European network or cooperative banks. Lets see.
Isn’t Wero run by a group of EU banks? First time I hear about EU involvement. Afaik it is the counter effort to the digital Euro from these banks.
Edit: I see, the EU Commission is somewhat involved: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Payments_Initiative but I don’t think they are the driving force behind Wero.
No, it is a centralized digital payment system run by the ECB.
Any actual link?
Not very convincing. Tariffs mainly hurt yourself, and if you exclude pretty much the only things the EU is actually importing from the US like the author suggest they are also meaningless.
Anti-coercive efforts that hit US big tech services I can get behind, because regardless of the outcome it will be good to reduce reliance on those.
The commonly shared software by all ATMs in Portugal is very cool too though. Lots of additional features like charging your prepaid sim or even paying your taxes too.
/me points
Haha!
