Underneath they are similar, however I was in the same boat as you. Lutris first however after installing a few apps I moved towards heroic.

Heroic is easier to manage your library requires less tinkering and as a benefit for steam deck owners, has controller support in the gui by default and native integration with epic games store.

Lutris works better for non platform games, like old PC games from CDs or EA App.

How I’ve been moving my games over is rebuying games I would be gutted to loose like Fallout 3, and Doom 2016. Then waiting on sales for the rest. Also Amazon Prime has free gog games so you maybe able to get a handful of games every month to move over

Heroic Launcher and GOG is your friend. DRM free ftw.

But seriously Steam Family sharing is the way to go here.

Steam lets you play your games on the big screen in various ways. But you will need the following.

1. A device with steam or steam link app installed. Samsung TV use to have Steam Link available but from a quick search might not be available anymore.

So you will need a device like an Apple TV or Google TV to plug into your TV if you want to wirelessly display your Steam Deck.

Though in my personal view you may want to just connect the steamdeck itself into the TV with a USBC to HDMI adapter. Plus you can charge your deck while connected to a TV.

2. a controller if you are plugging in your steam deck

Steam Deck has high compatibility with wireless controller from official controller from Sony, Xbox, and Nintendo. Plus the 3rd party ones like from 8bitdo are good and work well too.

My recommendation is Dongle/wireless controller for best experience. But if you must do everything wireless you don’t need a controller but it’ll still work.

Why you shouldn’t buy FO4 on GOG: On Linux it’s a bit more work, installing the game via steam it’s just one button and you are good. GOG you need a third party game manager like Heroic or Lutris. From there you can add it to steam, you’ll also want to download art as the ones provided by lutris are low res.

You’ll also have a hard time with online saves as you’ll need to also install GOG galaxy, which isn’t fun and is very buggy.

That said, from an application perspective, it’s running on Proton regardless, so it’ll run the same. And since the folders are easier to find (more structured like windows), I personally find modding in general easier.

The reason you want to buy the GOG version is that it’s drm free and yours to keep. No launcher required. Not something you’d care about on a steam deck, but on a PC it’s nice to have.
