Italy will increase its defense spending to reach NATO’s target of 2% of gross domestic product this year, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said.

Meloni said the target will be reached through higher defense expenditure but also through reclassification of certain expenses as defense costs. She pointed out this is something “other countries are doing as well.”
